The regional government will invest ten million euros in the five municipalities in the Valley to improve road infrastructure, which is the backbone of the county final

The President of the Autonomous Community, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, today inaugurated the new bridge over the wadi Mayes, which connects the town of Villanueva del Río Segura with eyes and Archena, which will speed communications access to the Valley of Ricote.

Valcarcel, who was joined on the bill by the Minister of Public Works and Planning, José Ballesta, and the mayor of Villanueva, José Luis Lopez, said that this new route connecting doubles the capacity of the previous two new rail infrastructure , one in each direction, "which will improve the fluidity of movements and improve road safety," since this section currently carries about two million vehicles a year.

This project, which has had a budget of 869,580 euros, solve the bottlenecks that originated in the area with the old bridge, which had only one lane and did not allow simultaneous movement in both directions.

The new bridge, which construction began last March, is located on the road between Ojós with Archena (RM-522), passing by the municipality of Villanueva del Río Segura, a communication route that crosses the gully of Mayes, north of town.

In addition, with this work the regional executive goes a step further in enhancing road safety in the National Road Network of the Autonomous Community, as they have removed road curves to the bridge, which will significantly improve security environment.

The action section has a length of 324 meters spread on both sides of the avenue, where he has built a bridge 120 meters long and 11 wide, with two lanes of 3.5 meters each and two sidewalks two meters wide.

The Directorate General of Highways install a new lighting system in the old bridge, where traffic is restricted to pedestrians and cyclists, becoming a new walking area for residents of the municipality.

Improving the road linking the highway Ricote Mula

During his visit, the president of the Community stated that the regional government through the Ministry of Public Works and Planning, in the coming years will invest around ten million euros in the backbone of the region and improving road safety through the implementation of five major projects.

In particular, the regional government will carry out the improvement of the road that connects Ricote with the road linking Cieza Mula (RM-B15), which will be allocated an investment of over one million euros.

It will also finance the improvement works of the diversion of eyes to Ricote, known as the Camino de la Pica's Horse, under the agreement signed with the City of Ojós in December 2008, by which the Community will invest 411,000 euros.

It is also planned to carry out the expansion of the Segura River bridge between the municipalities of Villanueva and Ulea (road RM-B14), with an investment of 1.5 billion euros, the construction of a new bridge over the Segura to avoid passing through the crossing on the go Ulea to Villanueva, whose estimated cost is about five million euros and the construction of a false tunnel in the solvent (RM-522), with an investment of over two million euros.

The aim of the different activities is to increase road safety and reduce the time of circulation in these municipalities through the improvement of road infrastructure, improving communications not only in urban but also in more remote districts, which which will benefit over 23,500 inhabitants of the Ricote Valley.
